WHAT
University Student Center
The origin of this project stemmed from a meticulous study of the Princeton University campus plan coupled with a keen observation of the site’s characteristics. A standout feature discovered during this initial exploration was the intricate network of linkages interwoven throughout the campus. Central to the university’s architectural ethos is the harmonious juxtaposition of enclosed and semi-enclosed courtyards, striking a delicate equilibrium between openness and containment within its spatial composition.
Inspired by this ethos, I embarked on a quest to imbue my own design with a similar ethos of connectivity, with a particular emphasis on fostering a sense of community among students. This vision was realized through a multifaceted approach that prioritized creating diverse interactions facilitated by the porosity of materials and strategic spatial configurations.
A pivotal element in the design strategy was the incorporation of double-height rooms adorned with lookouts offering glimpses into varied spatial qualities within the built form and surroundings. These elevated vantage points not only served as focal points for visual exploration but also catalyzed serendipitous encounters and exchanges, enriching the fabric of communal life within
the envisioned space.
In essence, the project epitomizes a synthesis of architectural innovation and social consciousness, where the principles of connectivity and community serve as guiding beacons in shaping a dynamic and inclusive educational environment.
