Shelving units tend to be very structured, yet they allow for air flow and light to enter the space. What if there is a way to create shelving that is more fluid in use? What if through the movement of the shelving, different scenarios can be created with the spatial quality to create different forms of usage.

With that in mind, the design of this ADU unit evolves along side the users. First, the shelving units serve as a place to collect physical memories. However, they not only collect physical memories, but they store stories within them. The shelving units are centered in the middle of the unit and have the ability to move in the vertical plan to create different moments of usage. One of the shelving units are completely extended upwards, they serve as space of rest and leave enough space underneath for the people to use as an office space. The second setting for the shelving units allows for a platform to be created to for performances to take place (one of my personal fondest memories would be whenever my family would come over to our house and ask the kids to preform a certain show to entertain the adults). The third setting for the unit allows for the shelving to serve as a table for dinning. The fourth, sunken form of the unit allows for a bit to be created for a cozy collaborative space.
